What a beautiful story! I grew up in India with dolls that looked nothing like me or the rest of the population - not that dolls are expected to look like humans but I think we get the general idea. Honestly (and regrettably, in hind sight), I never thought of that being anything unusual at that time because as a society we had internalized the white western concept of looks. Yes, we should have a much broader offerings of dolls in terms of color or ethnicity (and even gender!), but we also need to have far more diverse representation in media and popular culture to reverse this internalization.
