As you so rightly point out, it boils down to normalization - including that of any form or degree of violence for ‘good’ to triumph over ‘evil’, where good and evil are constructs of which side of the geopolitical map you belong to or category of any sort, seeking vengeance for the past wrongs or projection of future threats. Until and unless we treat physical violation of our own species (or others for that matter) as something abnormal (I am consciously avoiding the word abhorrent since that generates the negative feelings that we ant to renounce) so that it essentially becomes part of our DNA, we will continue to be the most potent instrument of our own destruction.
